New Sketches and WIPS

Welp I've been buys for the passed few months, these are sketches and person WIP's I did on my spare time. I realized that my process really lacked stability, so I went out of my way to start refining it.

Old Sketches:

My older sketches I had a bad habit of flying blindly, kind of winging it, having good days and bad days and never knowing why.

Awkward moments in experimenting:

A few weeks back I started using a colored paper texture. For some reason I love the idea that I am drawing on parchment. But here I started style searching, what habits help vs. the habits that don't.

Current awkwardness:

This development is nowhere near complete. Despite things feeling easier and more comfortable to work on, I still make huge mistakes. Especially when working on the 30 minute spit-paintings. They have been royally beating me down, but I try to learn from all of my mistakes.

Current Sketches:

Speed paintings tend to make me anxious. So I try to do some sketches where I don't burden myself with time. I've been referencing the top 10 steps to illustration however and it seems to help. These are also not fully refined, but it's a start.

(10 “Easy” Steps To Illustration: http://muddycolors.blogspot.com/2013/08/10-easy-steps-to-illustration.html)

Current works in progress:

I feel it's important to keep finishing what I start, even if it goes against newer techniques. That way I don't excel in one area while falling back in others. At the moment I am working on the swordsman, it was created using a different thought process than most of my other works. Therefore I want to see how far I can go with it.

There you have it, all my free time has been going towards improvement... At least I hope so, I don't want to be a mediocre artist anymore.

First of the wolf deck

First WIP of the wolf card, possibly the hardest one to draw and the most important.I really want to change the head, something feels off about it.

Yet another one.

Still on the subject of doing book covers. The first was more epic and collage, this one is more subtle and direct. Something completely opposite to what I was doing in terms of approach.

This one was a challenge. One thing I learned is that space has its own rules to light and color, especially when the character is nowhere near a planet.

I'm back... ish!

Getting back into the groove of things. I had a lot of unwinding to do after school ended. 7 years of being a college student enough to make me stop drawing for almost 2 months. I really needed a break.

Here's some digital doodles from earlier.

My friend Josh (Hiff/Huff)
My other friend Josh (Mac, Mucktuck)
My friend Lizard (Lizard)
My friend Angel... Making a face. Here's a personal book cover I'm working on. Heads up, I'm working off my laptop which just recently got reformatted. So it is not color calibrated.
